"I've always believed in me," were the words from man of the moment Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring a hat-trick in Portugal's opening World Cup fixture versus Spain

Cristiano Ronaldo was a picture of happiness at the end of Portugal's epic 3-3 draw with Spain. The Portuguese superstar single-handedly dragged him team from the brink of defeat to snatch a point against a superior Spain side. "I've always believed in myself because it's the job I've done all my life, but the praise should be for all of the team, they made a great effort."

For Cristiano, the draw was a fair result. "Spain were in control but we also had our chances." There was no doubt that this was a crucial point against one of Portugal's main rivals for the World Cup. "Spain are one of the favourites and we have started with a draw after coming from behind. Portugal has fighting spirit and we'll show that throughout the World Cup. But for now we are only thinking about the next match against Morroco and trying to qualify for the next round from a difficult group."

Cristiano became only the fourth footballer in history to score at four different World Cups. The other three to do it were Pele, for Brazil, and Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose, both for Germany.
