Vice president Jordi Mestre offered a statement on the non-signing

Convinving, clear and concise. Barcelona's vice president Jordi Mestre gave the club's version of events in the Antoine Griezmann sage by reading a brief statement before the presentation of Eric Abidal as the club's new sporting director.

"We respect Griezmann’s decision to renew with Atletico as we respect any player’s right to choose their future. We want committed players who have decided they want to be a success here above anything else," he affirmed.

"We feel bad for the supporters who have felt disappointed with the way it happened. The president (Josep Maria Bartomeu) spoke with Pique to tell him that his involvement provoked surprise and discomfort at club and among supporters."

In addition, Mestre admitted that when they get back from the World Cup, the club will speak with both Pique and Samuel Umtiti for their comments on social media on the day of Griezmann's deicison.

"We will speak with [Pique] and Umtiti internally after the World Cup about what happened but we won’t make any more public comments," he finished.

During the press conference, Mestre then refused to respond to questions about Griezmann, saying it would show a lack of respect to Abidal to continue talking about the issue.
