Arsene Wenger feels the criticism of Griezmann in Russia has been unfair just because he isn't a Zidane or an Mbappe

Arsenal legend, Arsene Wenger, believes that N'Golo Kante has been the best player for France so far at the World Cup. He has also defended Griezmann from the criticism he's faced back home.

"Kante has a unique ability to intercept balls and rectify the errors of his teammates. He's played perfectly for 180 minutes (vs Australia and Peru). He's been the best player for France up to now," according to Wenger in an interview he did for "Jornal du Dimanche".

Wenger, who is working as a commentator during this World Cup, also defended Griezmann who has been receiving criticism from some areas in his native France.

"Griezmann isn't someone who dazzles out on the pitch. He isn't like 'Zizou' (Zinedine Zidane) who did incredible things or Mbappe who can run with the ball for 50 metres with it seemingly attached to his feet. Griezmann is good when you look at what he does. He's got a great 'touch and go' and is always making himself available for his teammates."

According to Wenger the Atletico Madrid star's fitness levels are "exceptional" and he's smart enough to know where he needs to be whether the team is attacking or defending.

"There are very few people in world football who cover more than 12 km per match," concluded Wenger.
