Verratti agrees new deal with Paris Saint-Germain until 2020

Marco Verratti has signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, striking a blow to Barcelona, who have followed the midfielder for a while.

The Italian international, who joined the club in 2012, is now committed to the French champions until 2020 and PSG have described him as a “key element who has contributed to the club’s growth in France and on an international level.”

However, they have not revealed any details regarding his salary increase of buy-out clause.

Verratti told the club’s website: “I am really happy and grateful for the confidence placed in me. I love Paris and I love PSG.

“I want to continue to give everything, along with my team-mates, to make these fans happy and to convert the club into the best in Europe.”

The 23-year-old signed from Pesara and has since played over 150 games for the club, winning three consecutive titles - with a fourth likely to arrive later this year.

PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi described Verratti as an “idol” and tipped him to continue improving in the French capital.

Barça have followed a player Xavi once said has Blaugrana DNA, but it seems they will not be signing him any time soon given these developments.
