Valbuena breaks silence on sex tape blackmail case

Mathieu Valbuena has broken his silence. The French international, who a few days spoke in front of a judge, has spoken to the media for the first time to give his version on being blackmailed regarding a sex tape and about Karim Benzema’s involvement in the scandal.

In an interview with Le Monde, the Lyon player explained: Karim never spoke in an aggressive tone, nor did he mention money, but he insisted I met with someone… you can’t take people for a fool,” Valbuena said.

He didn’t hide his anger towards Benzema: “Logically I am disappointed, more than disappointed because he’s shown me a lack of respect. I respect everyone and I feel I have been taken for an idiot. Many people want to destabilise me, but I’ve always overcome [that] and moved forward.”

“There comes a time when you can’t defend the indefensible. I wouldn’t do that to my worst enemy. I’m really disappointed, the relationship I had with Karim is not as sincere as I thought.”

Valbuena said Benzema even lied to him about having seen the video: “He told me had seen it, even though he hadn’t. Why do that to one of your international team-mates?”

Madrid striker Benzema is facing charges for a conspiracy to blackmail Valbuena due to a conversation they had on October 5.
