Thiago Silva criticises Marquinhos' agents and confirms Barcelona interest in defender

Thiago Silva admitted Marquinhos is being followed by Barcelona and has criticised the player’s representatives for the handling of his career at Paris Saint-Germain where the club has two other top central defenders - one of which being Silva himself.

The other one is David Luiz, who signed from Chelsea for 50 million euros and is represented by the same people as Marquinhos, whose progression has seen the breaks put on as he plays second fiddle to his two Brazilian team-mates.

PSG’s captain, Silva, said: “The situation with Marquinhos is difficult. He’s a player with great qualities and he has the chance to play for all the big clubs in Europe.

“It’s the reason why Barcelona and other clubs have been in contact. But, in this story, the mistake is by his management (Giuliano Bertolucci and Roberto Calenda).

“They transferred David Luiz to Paris leaving two players from the same agency in competition. And the third central defender is the captain of the team. Which is me.”

Thiago continued: “Luckily, Marquinhos is a good guy, but I would have reacted negatively. He must continue working hard and see what is decided in the summer.”

PSG’s three central defenders are all Brazilian and Marquinhos himself admitted he will take a decision on his future when the current campaign reaches a climax. It will be a decision which even his coach, Laurent Blanc, will understand either way.
