Laurent Blanc on the exact moment Jose Mourinho was born as a coach
Laurent Blanc, manager of Paris Saint-Germain, told a story about Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, which happened while they were both at Barcelona in 1996-97.
In an interview with beIN Sports, Blanc explained how Mourinho - his opposite number in the Champions League last 16 - was assistant to Bobby Robson at Barcelona.
"Mourinho has a fantastic history at Barca. Bobby Robson did not speak Spanish and Mourinho was there mainly to make his life and communication easier. He speaks three, four or five languages. It was to facilitate the acclimatisation of Robson," recalls Blanc.
"After a month, the method of training was different and the players wanted to change. Robson put Mourinho in front of the players because he knew how to speak to them..
"I think in this moment, it all began. We saw he was very intelligent and wanted to do it. Louis van Gaal arrived and he had the intelligence to stay and learn from him. The rest is history."
