Cavani: Paris Saint-Germain are convinced we can beat Barcelona

Edinson Cavani says Paris Saint-Germain are convinced they can get a result against Barcelona on Tuesday.

The two side’s meet in the first leg of their round-of-16 Champions League tie in Paris, with the second leg at Camp Nou next month.

Barca have knocked out PSG in two of the last four seasons, but Cavani is hopeful of bucking the trend this year.

"We all want to win,” he said in a pregame press conference on Monday.

“It is a game of football and everything is possible. We are convinced that we can get a result. We definitely have a chance against Barcelona.

"PSG have plenty of experience in the Champions League, which is important. We have to fight to progress.

"We are a very strong team at the moment that is getting closer to reaching its objectives. A win in the first leg would move us one step closer to our goal. We would like to reach the final."

Cavani has scored 25 goals in Ligue 1 this season, effectively filling the gap left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure to Manchester United.

Like his fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez, he leads the league’s scoring charts, but he says it’s a team effort at PSG.

"It is the entire team that has to work together,” he added when asked about his importance to Unai Emery’s side.

“Football is a team game. We all have to give our all. I have to work hard, just like any other player.”
