Barcelona on alert over Marquinhos with PSG future to be decided

PSG coach Laurent Blanc has signalled that at the end of the season a decision will be taken over the future of defender Marquinhos, whose situation - being a substitute - "cannot go on eternally".

"You have to think that this situation, in which he is not an indisputable starter, cannot go on eternally. At the end of the season we will have to take a decision and we will take it," he said in a press conference.

Blanc praised the attitude of the central defender, 21, who is behind two of his compatriots in the pecking order - Thiago Silva and David Luiz. Marquinhos's patience is running out though.

"I can't play all three, I'd have to cahnge the system and currently that's not the case," said Blanc, who recently renewed his contract.

Barcelona will be playing close attention, with the board interested in signing a centre-back in the summer. This is Marquinhos' third season with PSG, in which he has played 24 games.
