Barça target Umtiti set for France debut in Euro 2016 quarter-final

Barcelona target Samuel Umtiti is set to win his first international cap in France's Euro 2016 quarter-final against Iceland on Sunday.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been capped at every level from Under-17s to Under-21s but has yet to make his full debut in Didier Deschamps' team.

However, Adil Rami's suspension has propelled him into the running to be paired with Laurent Koscielny and reports in France make him the favourite to start ahead of Manchester City's Eliaquim Mangala.

Umtiti has already played over 150 games for his club side Lyon and some reports have said he will have a medical with Barça once the European Championships conclude.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has recognised that Umtiti could leave the club this summer, but asked for calm as everything depends on what the defender wants to do with his career.

“We don’t have any need to sell. It’s been said we have financial problems, but that’s not true," he said.

"In the case of Samuel, everything will depend on what he decides to do with his future.

“We will respect his decision, but as of today, there’s nothing, and we are in no rush because he’s our player.”

The main problem is that Lyon are demanding 30 million euros and Barça don’t want to go above 25 million with variables.
