Zidane: It would be a failure not to make Champions League final

Zinedine Zidane admits it would be a failure if Real Madrid failed to make the final of the Champions League.

Madrid host Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night having drawn 0-0 in England last week.

However, they will harbour bad memories of last season’s defeat to Juventus at the same stage.

After losing 2-1 in Italy, Madrid fell in the semi-final to the Turin-based side after a 1-1 draw in the second leg in the Spanish capital.

“Yes [it would be a failure],” the French coach admitted in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

“Up until this point, we have said that we have won nothing. We are in a good moment, but the idea is to give our all tomorrow and to try to reach the final.

“But it will be a really difficult game. If we don’t go through, it will be a failure because we want to go through.”

The winners of the tie between City and Madrid will face either Atletico Madrid or Bayern Munich in the final in Milan later this month.
