Valencia suspend Feghouli & open disciplinary proceedings

Valencia have suspended Sofiane Feghouli pending disciplinary proceedings, according to a statement released by the club on Monday. Said statement does not specify the motives behind the disciplinary proceedings, nor does it allude to whether the suspension will also include the suspension of the player's wages.

"Valencia Football Club have decided to open disciplinary proceedings against its player Sofiane Feghouli. During this process and while we wait for the resolution of said proceedings, the player will be suspended from his employment, in agreement with the AFE (Players' Association)," the statement explains.

The Algerian forward is out of contract at Mestalla at the end of June and has not yet agreed an extension. But that does not seem to be the motive behind Feghouli's suspension. Sources close to the club suggest that after last weekend's game against Las Palmas, Feghouli travelled to Paris and did not return back in time for training on the Tuesday due to flight problems.

He claims he had purchased a return flight, but in the end travelled to the French capital by other means. These circumstances led to the airline cancelling his return flight as he had not flown on the original flight with the same documents.

Another possible reason - as Superdeporte report - could be the fact he refused to do a warm down after the win over Sevilla on Sunday. He was part of the squad, coming on in the 76th minute. On Monday, Feghouli wasn't present at training, either, alleging muscle problems, which could also be behind the suspension. It could also be a combination of the above.
