The 2015-16 La Liga season will begin the weekend commencing August 22/23
La Liga has a start date, at last. Miguel Cardenal has sided with the RFEF, saying that the idea of starting on the weekend August 22/23 is "better founded" and works better with UEFA's dates.
The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), therefore, ruled against Javier Tebas and the LFP, who had been in favour of starting the 2015-16 Primera Division season on the weekend commencing August 15/16.
Sources at the CSD have confirmed that the body understands "the position of the RFEF, which is better founded and also complies with UEFA's sporting calendar.
"In this sense, the LNFP will begin on August 16, 2015, while La Liga and La Segunda will kick off on August 23, as was propsed by the RFEF."
