Cristiano Ronaldo, Benitez and an argument over a pen drive

A lot was written about the relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafa Benitez while the latter was manager of Real Madrid earlier on during the current campaign. And as time has passed, more details have come to light of the clashes they had, such as one in El Pais on Monday. According to the newspaper, one incident between the two was provoked by nothing more than a pen drive.

In his early days as Madrid boss, Benitez requested that one of his assistants take a pen drive to the Portuguese international. On the drive was instructions about how to lose your man. Ronaldo’s reaction was very ‘prima donna’. According to the reports, he refused to accept the ‘present’ and sent Benitez’s assistant back with a message: “Tell Benitez that I will get him a pen drive with all my goals on it for him to study.”

During the months that followed, the clashes between the player and the manager were constant. The 31-year-old didn’t have any problem showing his delight when Benitez was replaced by Zinedine Zidane in January.
