Real Madrid's Luka Modric will miss up to six weeks with a ligament strain

Real Madrid have confirmed that Luka Modric suffered ligament damage in his right knee in Saturday's win over Malaga.

Modric is expected to be out of action for between five and six weeks

Carlo Ancelotti's worst nightmare became a reality when the results of the Croatian's tests at the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja were revealed.

He picked up the injury battling for the ball with Malaga's Recio.

While his colleagues were training on Sunday, Modric received the news confirming his injury.

Madrid now have to take on the final phase of the season without one of their most important players.

Modric had only just returned from a serious injury which he picked up in November while playing for Croatia against Italy.

He did not play for four months, until he returned against Schalke in the Champions League in March.

Los Blancos are also waiting to see how serious Gareth Bale's injury is.

The Welsh forward was taken off after five minutes against Malaga and will undergo tests on Monday.
