Real Madrid's James Rodriguez takes a pop at Rafa Benitez

Real Madrid's James Rodriguez takes a pop at Rafa Benitez

James Rodriguez scored as Colombia drew 1-1 with Chile on Thursday and then appeared to aim criticism at Rafa Benitez.

“This is for those who say I am not fit,” the Real Madrid midfielder said after the World Cup qualifier.

The 24-year-old has been out of action since September when he picked up a thigh injury while on international duty.

He was expected back in October, initially, but a setback in training ahead of Champions League game with Malmo ruled him out for a longer period of time.

Eventually, he made his comeback in the loss to Sevilla at the weekend, scoring in a 3-2 loss at the Sanchez Pizjuan - although he only appeared as a late substitute.

Benitez claimed the player lacked the necessary match fitness to start, but James suggested he had been ready and waiting to play for the last 15 days.

His comments after the Colombia game, therefore, would appear to be a clear strike in his club manager’s direction.
