Real Madrid working on a new contract for Karim Benzema

Real Madrid have no intention of letting French forward Karim Benzema leave. Under his compatriot Zinedine Zidane, Benzema has recovered his prominence in the side which he had lost due to injuries and is a key part of the team again, up to the point that Madrid are looking into renewing his contract, which was signed less than two years ago.

According to L'Equipe, Los Blancos intend to meet with the player's agent, Karim Djaziri this week, to begin talks over a new deal, with his current contract running until 2018 - it was signed in the summer of 2014. The player is currently on around six million euros a season, although a new deal would reportedly be worth 500,000 euros more.

Madrid also hope to add two more years to his terms. The forward has become a priority for the club, ahead of the likes of Pepe, Keylor Navas, Jese, Isco and even Cristiano Ronaldo. Pepe's deal is up next season, while Costa Rican stopper Navas hopes the club will fulfill their promise of improving his contract. Jese and Isco have two years left on their deals, while Ronaldo is a different case altogether.
