Real Madrid legend Raul signs for the New York Cosmos despite "retirement"

Former Real Madrid striker Raul, 37, will join the New York Cosmos on a multi-year contract.

He's heading to the States after two years in Qatar and then retiring in March. He is still the current leading goalscorer in Champions League history.

"Everyone throughout the soccer world knows the Cosmos name and the legacy of the players that played for this team previously," he said.

"They helped establish soccer in America and I'm honoured to follow in their footsteps.

"I believe in this club's vision and I'm excited to be a part of it."
