Real Madrid have tabled an offer of 60 million euros for PSG's Marco Verratti

Real Madrid have made an offer of 60 million euros for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

Following the arrival of Rafa Benitez, Los Blancos want to strengthen in the middle of the pitch and are ready to take a bet on the Italian international.

PSG are not keen on selling Verratti, although it may make sense for them as they seek to comply with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules

If they accepted the Madrid offer, they would have around 140 million euros to spend on transfers.

Benitez wants to add to Madrid's midfield because he is convinced the team is weak in that area, at least in terms of depth.

Verratti was Carlo Ancelotti's No.1 objective, too, and the club have been working on a possible deal for several months.

The 22-year-old wants to leave PSG as he does not feel comfortable in the French league. He was negotiating with Juventus and Inter Milan, but neither of those clubs have the money to sign him.

Madrid can afford 60 million euros, though, as Florentino Perez looks towards where he can spend his cash this summer.
