Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico (5-3p): Ronaldo scores winning penalty in shoot-out

Real Madrid won their 11th Champions League on penalties after Juanfran for Atletico and Cristiano Ronaldo converted the winning spot-kick.

Sergio Ramos' offside goal sent Real Madrid ahead in the 14th minute, when he prodded Gareth Bale's flick on from Toni Kroos' free-kick past Jan Oblak. The Madrid man was in front of Stefan Savic but the linesman did not flag.

Atletico slowly worked their way back into the game and equalised in the second half, when Yannick Carrasco blasted home from close range.

The Belgian was brought on at half-time and was a key influence for Diego Simeone's team as they battled to get level. Gabi released Juanfran down the right and his cross was pefect for Carrasco to meet at the back post.

Atletico's key player this season, Antoine Griezmann, had missed a penalty earlier in the half, crashing it off the crossbar after Pepe had fouled Fernando Torres.

Real Madrid were tiring towards the end of the game and Atletico should have pushed them, but in extra-time they played it safe, with the game resulting in spot-kicks.

Oblak, who had made great saves from Casemiro and Benzema during the game, became the villain, getting nowhere near any of Madrid's five penalties.

Juanfran too, having set up the goal, fluffed his lines, striking his penalty against the post.

And Ronaldo, who had offered nothing throughout the game, clearly not at 100 per cent like Zidane had claimed, was the hero, firing past Oblak to start Madrid's celebrations.
