Neville poised to make Mosquera his first Valencia signing

Gary Neville is set to complete his first signing since taking charge of Valencia last month after the club decided to activate Pedro Mosquera’s release clause.

The Deportivo La Coruna midfielder, who came through Real Madrid’s academy, will cost Los Che four million euros.

He will add strength and depth to a midfield which has been hit by injuries this season, hampering Neville’s start to life in charge at Mestalla.

Mosquera, 27, joined Madrid in 2000, but after just one league appearance in the 2009-10 season he left for Getafe.

Following a spell back at the Bernabeu on loan with Castilla, he eventually broke into the first team at Getafe in the 2013-14 season.

However, he left for Elche, whom he was was relegated with last year, before signing for Deportivo last summer.

Just six months after his arrival at the Riazor, though, he’s now set to move again, with Valencia hoping he will be available for Sunday’s game against Sporting Gijon.

Asked about transfers on Wednesday, ahead of his side’s vital Copa del Rey quarter-final against Las Palmas, Neville gave a cagey response.

"I'm forgetting all about transfers for today. I have a game tomorrow [Thursday],” he said in his press conference.

"Enzo Perez and Sofiane Feghouli are my signings, it's positive to be able to have them back."

Valencia travel to the Canaries following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, knowing a win or a high-scoring draw will carry them into the semi-finals of a Copa del Rey which has seen Real Madrid and Atletico make early exits.

In the league, though, England coach Neville is yet to win a game since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in December.
