"Most important goal of my career," says Real Madrid match winner Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez hailed his winner in the Madrid derby as "the most important goal" of his career.

The Mexican striker, on loan from Manchester United, struck in the 88th minute to send Real Madrid through to the Champions League semi-final at the expense of Atletico Madrid.

He wouldn't have even been playing if it was not for Los Blanco's injury list -- attackers Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were among the missing players on Tuesday.

"Of course it’s my most important goal, because the present is what is important,” he told Canal Plus immediately after the match.

"It gives me a lot of confidence. It was a great assist [by Cristiano Ronaldo]."

Madrid's win was their first against their city rival since last year's Champions League final. In seven matches between the two sides this season, Atletico had won four and drawn three.

With that in mind, Hernandez said this match belongs to the people, not to him.

"[Previous matches with Atletico] didn’t bring good things this season," he continued. "This belongs to everyone. It belongs to all the people.

“I scored, but it’s for everyone. The people who have trusted in me, my teammates and my family. The goal is for all of them."

So who does he want in Friday's last four draw? Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Juventus? "To win the Champions League you have to beat everyone.”
