Marca: Ronaldo suffers knee ligament damage against France

The injury picked up by Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half of Portugal’s European Championship win against France could prove to be ligament damage in his left knee.

According to Marca, the first diagnosis of the Real Madrid star’s knock suggests as much, although they add that it’s risky to speculate on the seriousness of the injury and the possible recovery period before the first scan.

Ronaldo could miss Madrid’s date in the European Super Cup against Sevilla on August 9 in Trondheim. He has just one month to be fit and ready for that encounter.

After being taken off injured in the 25th minute of the Euro 2016 final, Ronaldo went to the dressing room, but re-appeared for extra time, where he sat on the bench with his team-mates.

On Monday he will undergo extensive tests to determine the nature of the injury, which he picked up courtesy of a Dimitri Payet challenge.
