Man United and Real Madrid deal for De Gea set for further complication

The British press believe that Louis Van Gaal is now turning the screw with regards to the deal between Manchester United and Real Madrid over goalkeeper David De Gea, who will start pre-season training with the Red Devils next Monday.

The Daily Star has cited a source from the Manchester club: "Unless they reach a deal before the start of next week, which isn't probable, David will return to the club to start the pre-season, which isn't ideal for anyone involved."

The complicated situation arises after Van Gaal was unable to persuade De Gea to stay at Old Trafford. The goalkeeper rejected an offer of 282 thousand euros per week, which would have made him the highest-paid shot-stopper in the world.

On their own part, Manchester United rejected a 21 million euro offer from Real Madrid, asking for 42 million euros instead. Florentino Perez has doubts about the price, however, and is aware that De Gea will be available on a free transfer at the end of next season.

In England the De Gea situation is considered to be in a state of limbo, bearing in mind that the goalkeeper will be travelling with the Man United squad on a tour of America, while Rafa Benitez's men will be embarking on a tour to Australia.
