La Liga still can't decide whether to begin the new season on August 16 or 23

LFP president Javier Tebas said on Thursday that he believes a decision will be made next week about when La Liga will start.

"We want to start on August 16 and the RFEF want August 23. There is a problem with the dates because of the Spanish Super Cup," Tebas explained.

"The Players' Association (AFE) also don't want to start on August 15. If we can't come to an agreement, it will have to be resolved by the Higher Sports Council.

"Before the end of next week there will be a decision."

Tebas defended the LFP's eagerness to start one week earlier, saying 25 million euros worth of income would be lost if the season started a week later.

Luis Rubiales, the president of the Players' Association, criticised the LFP for the delay in deciding when the season will start

He said that they are obliged to agree with what the collective wants and accused them of ignoring emails.
