Levante's five signings to help them beat Barça

The Levante side which will receive Barcelona this weekend will be different to the one that lost 4-1 at Camp Nou earlier this season.

Starting with the manager, Joan Francesc Ferrer 'Rubi', who replaced Lucas Alcaraz, Levante have been looking for ways to change the dynamic and move away from the bottom - so far without success.

In January they signed five players, a mixture of loans and transfers, in a bid to improve their chances of survival.

One of the most spectacular signings was the Italian-America striker Giusseppe Rossi who began the season with Fiorentina.

Despite playing few minutes in Italy, he arrives at Levante as a player full of quality and with knowledge of La Liga having previously played for Villarreal.

He's not the only arrival, either. Lucas Orban has also been signed on loan from city rivals Valencia to improve the side in defence.

Joan Verdu, who previously played for Barcelona and Espanyol, has also arrived from Fiorentina. The attacking midfielder has signed a deal until 2017.

At the beginning of the month the Colombian Mauricio Cuero signed from Banfield, penning terms until 2020. The fifth signing is Carl Medjani, a defender who has come from Turkish side Tranzonspor.

With four wins, five draws and 13 defeats, Levante are bottom of the league. They beat Las Palmas 15 days ago, but lost to Sevilla last time out.

They have just 17 points (34 less than Barcelona) and are hoping to catch the likes of Rayo Vallecano, Granada, Las Palmas and Sporting, while Espanyol and Real Betis are also in their sights.
