Keylor Navas: "Zidane understands us and has a clear philosophy"

Keylor Navas has revealed his admiration for Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane and believes the European champions have learned much under the Frenchman's guidance.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper has become Los Blancos' undisputed no.1 and prepares for the upcoming season with enthusiasm and a desire to work, after helping Real defeat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28 and securing his first major trophy in the Spanish capital.

"He understands the team and has a clear philosophy," Navas said in an interview with Adidas, "We all try to understand what he wants as quickly as possible and implement it on the pitch.

"One of the things that helped us win the Champions League [last season] was that we learned very fast and we had very clear ideas [under Zidane's management]. In the end, we achieved the target we had in mind.

"[Winning the Champions League] is a unique moment and I try to enjoy these moments to the fullest, celebrating with my team-mates who had to work hard [to achieve the title]. To win the trophy was like putting the icing on the cake."

Navas went 338 minutes unbeaten in goal during Real's Champions League campaign and the accolade remains firmly placed in the goalkeeper's mind. "Without the help of your team-mates, you cannot do anything," Navas concluded.

"It's an individual achievement, but they're always there to help me and I'll always be grateful to them."
