Jose Gaya edges closer to Madrid after rejecting Valencia's contract offer

Jose Luis Gaya's contract renewal with Valencia is looking more and more complicated.

Several months ago, an agreement between all parties appeared close, but as of today they are further away than ever.

The young left-back, through the agency which represents him, Toldrá Consulting, has rejected Valencia's latest offer.

His current deal expires in 2018, with the new terms stretching that untill 2021.

Also under the new agreemenet, his release clause would go from €18million to €40m, while his yearly salary would rise to €1.5m (he currently earns €250,000).

The main cause for the rejection appears to be the release clause -- Gaya does not believe it should be more than €30m.

His agents are also aware of Real Madrid's interest.

Florentino Perez has said he will not interfere with the player's renewal, although Los Blancos are lurking, monitoring the situation.
