James Rodriguez: I want to stay at Real Madrid for years to come

James Rodriguez says he wants to stay at Real Madrid for many more years, despite the star's horror season at the club.

The Colombian midfielder has mainly been a reserve, after a stunning first year under Carlo Ancelotti, with neither Rafa Benitez nor Zinedine Zidane taking to him.

James sat on the bench throughout the Champions League final, but said afterwards: "In football you never know but I want to continue here and my idea is to have many more years with the club.

"I am happy here. All the people close to me are happy too. It's the ideal club and I want to be here.

"Yes, I would have liked to play but I did contribute to the team's success. They were all good and it was a very good Champions League victory."

James admitted his season had been a "bit strange" but also said: "When you have bad times you also learn from them. Each day I learn more.

"I don't know [what I've been lacking] but I have to leave this behind and think about what is ahead of me."
