Ghosts & doubts haunting Florentino Perez as he prepares to make Ancelotti decision

Everything indicates that Carlo Ancelotti will not continue on the Real Madrid bench next season, but Florentino Perez's decision has become a little harder in recent days.

He has seen the Italian coach be cheered by the fans, while the players have made it clear they would like him to stay.

Perez had decided to let Ancelotti go, even though he has one year left on his contract, following a season which failed to yield the Champions League or La Liga.

However, the support he has from the fans and his squad has planted doubts.

The option to bring in Rafa Benitez has not been met with enthusiasm among Madrid fans, who would prefer to keep on track with the man that helped them win their coveted 10th European Cup.

That was evident during Madrid's win against Getafe at the weekend, which Perez was there to see.

GHOSTS OF THE PAST

Now Perez may be worried of making the same mistake he made in 2003, when he decided to release Vicente Del Bosque from his role as first team coach.

On that occasion, it ended up being counter-porductive and would eventually lead to Perez's resignation in 2006.

He returned as president in 2009, but is history about to repeat itself?
