Frank Rijkaard rejected Valencia job after Nuno exit

Former Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has rejected the chance to take over at Valencia after Nuno Espirito Santo parted ways with the side at the weekend.

Rijkaard did not want to take over the team who are ninth in La Liga with five wins, four draws and four defeat, as well as having to rely on other sides to qualify for then next round of the Champions League.

Rijkaard will continue without a managerial job, after more than two years of inactivity. His last coaching role was the Saudi Arabia national team, whom he took charge of between summer 2011 and January 2013. A year after he announced he woukd not like to coach again, but later said he would "return to Barcelona with a lot of joy".

His most successful era as a coach was at the club, where he was in charge between 2003 and 2008. In these five years he won two La Ligas, one Champions League, two Spanish Super Cups and put his style of play on the side, giving another Dutch touch at Camp Nou.

Valencia are now looking for other candidates. Michael Laudrup, another former Barcelona player, is on the list. Curiously, Valencia's next game is against the Catalan side at Mestalla on Saturday.
