Força Cholo Simeone! For one day, Barcelona are with you...

We were with Manchester City. But they let us down. We were with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich. But they let us down, too. Now we are left with no other choice but to support Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final.

Even though we are not ‘Cholistas’, we will be for one day. It’s the only hope we have against Real Madrid’s ‘undecima’ hopes. It’s a sad consolation  for Cules in a season which will be good, bad or regular in function to what happens in Milan on May 28. The league and cup double will be judged against what happens in the Champions League. And if Madrid win it, nothing will be sufficient. Because their eleventh European Cup will be forced down our throats from the Madrid information machine. 

Madrid reached the final of the Champions League without football. A goalless draw in Manchester and a 1-0 win at the Bernabeu. Little else, very little. But it was enough to knock out a City side that somehow reached the last four - no-one can understand how. A boring, bland team, lacking in bite, intensity and ambition. Nothing. A team that’s going to need a lot of work if Guardiola wants to win something when he debuts in the Premier League next season.  

City were not capable of eliminating Madrid. And Bayern, who were the Cules’ alternative without Barcelona in the competition, were knocked about by the passion of ‘Cholismo’ and an Atletico Madrid side who we don’t enjoy watching, but is now our favourite. Simeone has taken the expression ‘the important thing is to win, not how you win’ to new levels. The complete opposite to what we though when we enjoyed the Pep Team. But for one day, for a couple of hours, we will be behind ‘Cholismo’ so as not to see Sergio Ramos lift the ‘undecima’.

There’s also a date with justice for Atletico Madrid in this Champions League final as well. They deserved to win it two years ago, when they were beaten by Madrid in stoppage time. Simeone's revenge will also be ours.
