Five Barça players in Spain squad; but Aleix Vidal is left out

Barcelona players Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta have been called up to the Spain squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia.

However, true to his word, Vicente del Bosque has left out Aleix Vidal due to the fact he is not able to play competitive football for Barça until January because of the Catalan club's ban on registering new signings.

Pedro, who recently completed a move to Chelsea, has been picked, but Del Bosque has decided against bringing Bayern Munich's Thiago Alcantara back into the squad.

"Thiago still excites us and we did think about bringing him," La Roja's coach explained. "We will continue to think about him in the future."

Del Bosque also spoke about Aritz Aduriz and Alvaro Negredo, two players who have started the season well. However, he preferred to call up Paco Alcacer and Diego Costa as his central strikers.

Spain play against Slovakia on September 5 in Oviedo and away against Macedonia on September 9. Slovakia currently top Group C having beaten Del Bosque's side last year in the first meeting between the two countries.
