Diego Simeone is looking for an authentic Atletico 'killer'

Diego Pablo Simeone knows he needs a new No 9 at Atletico. After Jackson Martinez went to Guangzhou Evergrande in China for 45 million euros, and with Fernando Torres failing to find good form, despite the fans' support, he has been on the lookout for a 'killer'. 

There are six candidates in the 'casting' for the Atletico centre-forward position. The No 1 contender is their former player, Chelsea's Diego Costa. But Edinson Cavani, Romelu Lukaku, Icardi, Christian Benteke and Carlos Bacca are on the list too. But don't forget the surprisingly good performances of Borja Baston, on loan at Eibar. 

He has 17 goals in La Liga and one in the Copa del Rey. Numbers similar to the top goalscorer at Atletico, Antoine Griezmann - who has 17 goals in the league too but has played more games.

Baston is succeeding where Leo Baptistao is not, with only six goals in 26 games on loan at Villarreal from Atletico.
