Del Bosque: There aren't enough Spanish players at the biggest clubs

Vicente del Bosque says there are not enough Spanish players at the biggest clubs in Spain.

Speaking at a hospital in Valencia, the La Roja boss said it wasn't a huge problem, but felt it was worth pointing out.

"At the biggest clubs there are not a lot of Spanish players and there are times when it is difficult for us to find someone at a big club," he told the gathered media.

"That's not necessarily a bad thing, though, because there is still three Spanish teams in the Champions League and one in the Europe League.

"However, it is a small problem that there are not a lot of Spanish players."

There is still a heavy representation in the Spain squad from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, though.

Madrid players Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Isco; Barça's Gerard Pique, Marc Bartra, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Pedro; and Atletico Madrid's Juanfran and Koke have all been included in recent get-togethers.

Del Bosque was also asked about Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, who has impressed the season.

"He is a player who is demonstrating his qualities," he replied.

"A player for the present and that is why he is playing for Valencia. Of course we have him in mind.

"At the moment he is with the U21s; we will see in the coming months what forward steps he can take."
