David Moyes hails Real Madrid as the best team he has ever faced

David Moyes said the current crop of Real Madrid players may be the best side he has ever come up against after his Real Sociedad side were beaten 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon.

The former Manchester United manager masterminded a win over Barcelona earlier this month, but he was unable to follow it up with another miracle in the Spanish capital.

"The way [Madrid] played in the first half may be as good as I've come up against," he said in his post match press conference.

"They forced us wide, they were difficult to get close to and they made it really hard for us."

La Real had taken a shock second minute lead, although it didn't last for long as James Rodriguez headed in Marcelo's cross almost instantly to level the scores.

But while crediting Los Blancos, Moyes also admitted some frustration towards the way his side defended.

"I was a little disappointed with my defenders," he continued. "We needed to be more aware, but we were up against top quality players and that quality was able to shine through in the end.

"We had that platform [through the early goal], but we couldn't keep it. I know we lost but I really enjoyed my experience against one of the top sides in the world."

Moyes wasn't the only British interest around the game, with Gareth Bale playing 90 minutes for Madrid.

He created the third goal for Karim Benzema but was unable to get on the score sheet and some sections of the home crowd were disappointed with his performance.

However, Moyes doesn't think the Welshman should overly concerned with a bit of criticism.

"Bale's a top player," Moyes continued. "You know the important thing when you have those players is that you encourage them.

"On another day he will score because he is such a good player. He has nothing to worry about, he's an exceptional player. Madrid didn't need his goals today, but when they do need them he'll be there."

Finally, Moyes revealed that Carlos Vela had to be taken off in the first half due to a "medial meniscus" problem, adding that a scan will determine how long the Mexican striker will be out for.
