Cristiano Ronaldo is modest when asked about Ballon d'Or

Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid's Portuguese star, has shown his more modest version when asked about the next Ballon d'Or.

This trophy has always been one of his main objectives at the start of each season, and the next award seems to already have his name on it after his successes in the Champions League, with Real Madrid, and at Euro 2016, with Portugal.

Though there are arguments in favour of Leo Messi, and reasons why Cristiano should not be the front-runner (namely his poor performances in the Champions League final and during most of the European Championships), the truth is that the Portuguese forward is certainly the favourite.

In other years, without as much favouritism, we would have found a Cristiano Ronaldo boasting of his achievements and lobbying for the prize.

However, though we do not know if it is down to being so sure of his victory, he now opts to display an image of modesty.

So when he was asked about the individual honour in Portugal, Cristiano replied:

"It has been the best year of my life in terms of trophies, I have won the two most important trophies with my club and national team.

"I have always won the individual awards without expectations, they are not everything, I am not obsessed with that.

"I have a good probability (of winning) because this year I have won the European Championship and the Champions League, they are very important trophies."
