Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is considering selling star man Cristiano Ronaldo as he approaches the final years of his career.

According to 'El Confidencial', Perez has changed his mind about the man he lauded as the “best in the world” as recently as December, who has struggled for form since winning his third Ballon d'Or crown.

Despite being told not to go ahead with the pre-planned 30th birthday celebration by both board members and his own entourage, Ronaldo risked Real's wrath by throwing the party after losing 4-0 to Atletico in the Madrid derby, their worst defeat for almost five years.

The Portuguese star turned up for training yesterday morning and was greeted by angry Madridistas who chanted “more balls, less parties”, while some of Madrid's Spanish contingent boycotted the bash due to the result.

James Rodriguez and Sami Khedira could also be facing fines for attending while recovering from injuries.

Perez hasn't been too impressed with Ronaldo's actions and is believed to be willing to cash in on his prized asset, which could entice Manchester United into negotiations for David de Gea.

Amid this speculation, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti says Ronaldo is a “natural leader” who has years left in him at the highest level.

“Among the squad, he’s a leader, he talks to all the members of the squad, especially the younger players, he’s an important part of the squad as are Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Casillas and Marcelo," Ancelotti said.

"If he keeps faithful with the passion he has, his career can continue for some time due to his optimum physical condition.”

But Perez is renowned for ruthlessly changing the squad behind Ancelotti's back. Two years ago, he sold Mesut Ozil to Arsenal to fund the world-record move for Gareth Bale, and last year he sacrificed a rejuvenated Angel Di Maria in order to bring Rodriguez to the Bernabeu after he shone for Colombia at the World Cup in Brazil.
