Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly avoided tax on image rights contract

Cristiano Ronaldo has escaped the Portuguese Hacienda, according to the newspaper Correo da Manha. The newspaper says, with great detail, that he has avoided paying tax for the image rights contract he signed with the BES (Banco Espiritu Santo) during 2013 and 2014.

The contact, signed in 2012, saw the forward get €1.3million, or €650,000 for each year of the contract. According to the paper, it was managed by Gestifute, owned by his advisor and super-agent Jorge Mendes, whose tax is paid in Ireland by Multisports & Image Management. That allowed him to pay just 12.5% in tax, as opposed to the 25% that Portugal would take.
