Copa del Rey final costs soar for Athletic Club fans wanting to travel

Hosting an event like the final of the Copa del Rey is a great economic boost for the city that is designated the privilege .

The final of the 2015 edition sees Barcelona as the the fortunate host of thousands of Athletic Club de Bilbao fans. 

While in town for the final, the Basque supporters will eat in the city, drink in the city and, most likely, book up the hotels in the city. 

Local estimates in Barcelona suggest that the weekend of the final will add around €8-10million to the city's bank accounts

However, things don't loks so rosy for the Athletic fans. 

Since it was made known that Camp Nou would host the final, flights from Bilbao towards El Prat airport on or around May 30 have shot up

Normally, a return flight would cost around €140, but the cheapest flights immediately crept up to €260 and continued to rise -- in some cases up to as much as €700.

Then there is the cost of a room for the night in the Catalan capital, which have already shot up from €70 to €300. 

More economic options usually include the bus or the train. 

A return journey on the train is usually around €130, but the trains back from Barcelona the following Sunday are already fully booked.
