Benitez backtracks & now claims Ronaldo is the "best in the world"

Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez said in a press conference on Thursday that Cristiano Ronaldo is "the best in the world," just one week after refusing to give a definitive answer on the matter.

Los Blancos' coach wanted to calm down the situation following the controversy of his earlier comments -- "to say that [Ronaldo] is one of the best in the world, I believe, is sufficient" -- and Ronaldo's attitude on the training pitch.

"Working with him over this week, you realise how competitive he is and that is why he is the best in the world," Benitez said, changing his mind.

"He has already demonstrated that and with me he is demonstrating it again. I would like everyone to have his motiviation to compete and to win. I am delighted with him.

"My relationship with him is like it is with the other players. I speak a lot with everyone. There are people that say this or that, but I assure you [there are no problems with Ronaldo]. Everything is normal."

Benitez also spoke about the images Cuatro released of Wednesday's trainign session, which showed Ronaldo getting angry at some of his boss' decisions.

"The training sessions are normal, the talking, too," Benitez added. "To be competitive is a virtue, not a defect. I always try to get the best out of the players I have in my squad and working with [Ronaldo] I understand the trophies that he has and why he is the best in the world."
