Barça and Athletic will meet in the Copa del Rey final at Camp Nou on May 30

This year's Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Athletic Club will be staged at Camp Nou on May 30. 

The two clubs would have preferred the game to be played at Real Madrid's Bernabeu, but Los Blancos were not so keen on the idea. 

Atletico Madrid's Vicente Calderon was also ruled out because of a concert which is being held the same weekend as the match is due to take place. 

Both clubs met on Wednesday to try and finalise a venue, but neither could agree on a stadium. 

Barcelona, who were represented by Albert Soler in the talks, were pushing for Valencia's Mestalla, while Athletic preferred Real Betis' Benito Villamarin.

San Mames and Camp Nou also emerged as possible options. 

With the clubs unable to reach an agreement, though, the responsibility for choosing the venue was handed over to the RFEF. 

And on Wednesday evening they announced that this year's Copa del Rey final will be played in Barcelona.

Barça's home makes sense on many levels, not least because it it the largest stadium in Spanish football. 

However, Atletic may feel it gives Luis Enrique's side an advantage.
