Bale's costing Madrid over one million per game

The signing of Gareth Bale has not worked out too well for Real Madrid so far. Following Football Leaks big reveal that the Welshman cost 100.7 million euros, confirming him as the most expensive player ever, the talk about his performances has intensified. And that’s been the case even more since another calf injury (his sixth) has left him out of action again.

According to a report in Diario AS, each game Bale has played in his first two seasons (2013-14, 2014-15) cost Madrid 750,000 euros. That’s a lot. In fact, the Welsh star has only completed, since he arrived at the club, in 64 percent of the minutes available to him (8,626 out of 13,410). Even the numbers in the current season (2015-16) aren’t any better: he has played just 46 percent of the minutes Los Blancos have disputed. For that reason, his cost per appearance is more than one million euros now.

In addition to the 100.7 million euros Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale, the player has a six-year deal worth 18 million euros per season. The total cost of the player is 34.5 million per year. Another failed signing in the tenure of Florentino Perez.
