Atletico shocked in Greece as Liverpool leave it late against Ludogorets

Group A

Last season's runners up Atletico Madrid were stunned by Greek side Olympiakos in their opening match of this year's competition. Antoine Griezmann's late strike made it 3-2, but the damage had already been inflicted on Diego Simeone's side. Former Barcelona man Ibrahim Afellay scored one of the host's three goals.

In the other match, Juventus, via a Carlos Tevez brace, didn't need to leave second gear as they beat Swedish side Malmo.

Group B

Three late goals eventually equated to three Liverpool points on the Red's return to the Champions League against Bulgarian side Ludogorets. Mario Balotelli thought he's wrapped up the win, but it was left to a stoppage time penalty from Steven Gerrard after Dani Abalo had equalised in the final minute.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, were busy getting angry against FC Basel to the tune of five goals.

Group C

First half goals from Hulk and Axel Witsel sandwiched an Artur red card as Zenit St. Petersburg won 2-0 in Portugal against 10-man Benfica.

Monaco, meanwhile, might have let their best players leave - James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao - but they still have some good ones hanging around. Notable, Joao Moutinho, who got their winner against Bayer Leverkusen.

Group D

Arsenal lost 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund but it could have been more - Arsene Wenger's side just never got going. The Germans, however, were impressive and had Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tp thank for their goals.

Burak Yilmaz struck a late equaliser for Galatasaray against Anderlecht in the group's other game.
