After Valencia and Atletico medicals, Rodrigo Caio will stay in Brazil

Sao Paulo have announced that central defensive midfielder Rodrigo Caio, who was negotiating a loan deal with Atletico Madrid, has rejected the Spanish club's offer and will stay in Brazil. The player will meet back up with the club's board and sort out his continued future in Sao Paulo.

"Rodrigo Caio expressed his desire to not be transferred to European football as a test in the form of a loan. The club is in agreement with the player's decision," explained a press release.

On Thursday, Sao Paulo president Carlos Miguel Aidar confirmed that the negotiations with Atletico Madrid for the loan of the midfielder were not closed.

After Valencia announced in a press statement that they had decided "to not proceed with the signing of Rodrigo Caio... after considering different problems in the process," the player arrived in Madrid to face a medical from Atleti.

Rodrigo Caio, who is 21-years-old, was brought through the youth categories at Sao Paulo, rising into the first team in 2011 and playing as a central defender as much as a defensive midfielder, the position which Atletico were looking to reinforce due to the probable exit of Mario SuarezThiago Motta is another option.

Caio recovered from a knee ligament injury at the start of 2015, after seven months out. He has played 127 times for Sao Paulo, scoring five goals and winning two titles.
