Adidas top brass not impressed with Ronaldo's Champions League celebration

Adidas and Nike are fierce competitors and battle with each other to dress the world’s best football teams and players. While Nike have just made Barcelona the best paid club in the world - in terms of kit suppliers - Real Madrid are negotiating a new deal with Adidas in a bid to match Barça’s agreement with the North American company.

With this as the backdrop, Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration after scoring the winning penalty against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final shootout has not gone down well with the German manufacturers. The Portuguese went wild after netting the decisive spot kick, ripping off his shirt as he celebrated the club’s 11th European Cup with his team-mates.

In most of the celebratory photos after that goal he appears with his chest uncovered, with the Adidas logo nowhere to be seen. According to the website ‘Marketing Deportivo’, the player’s gesture was not enjoyed at Adidas headquarters, where they are aware of the fact that, despite the player having a deal with Nike, Ronaldo is one of their big players when he is wearing the Madrid shirt.
