Zidane: Madrid were far superior but you can't always win it in the last minute

The French coach liked what he saw in the second half and wasn't overly disappointed with the result

Zinedine Zidane thought Real Madrid were the superior side as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Villarreal on Wednesday.

As well as seeing their 100 per cent start to the season come to an end, they also saw a run of 16 straight La Liga wins ended.

It leaves them level with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona for Spain’s top flight’s longest run of victories.

However, Zidane wasn’t disappointed and pointed out it’s not always possible to win games late on, as they did against Sporting Club in the Champions League in midweek.

He said in his press conference: “In the second half we could have won, but the first half obviously no [we weren’t good enough].

“It's tough. It was a difficult game and we put a lot of effort in, but these things can happen, and it has happened.

“We've dropped two points at home, but we're not going to change the way we want to do things. In the second half we were far superior, but you can't always win it in the last minute.”

Bruno Soriano gave Villarreal from the penalty spot after Sergio Ramos had handles the ball in the area, with Ramos then making amends by equalising in the second half.
