Taylor Swift pips Cristiano Ronaldo to 'Ballon d'Or' for social media followers

With 238 million followers, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed man in the world on social media.

But there is one person with more followers than him in this particular 'Ballon d'Or' battle: the American singer Taylor Swift (246 million followers), according to a report by the company Apple Tree Communications.

The report takes into account followers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Ronaldo's 238 million followers does have him in second place, though, in a top five which is completed by women: Taylor Swift (246 million), Katy Perry (219 million), Selena Gomez (205 millions) and Rihanna (190 million).

Only last weekend Ronaldo had made a point of saying he's the most searched for person on the Internet during a rant about Xavi Hernandez.

According to the reports, on a worldwide level "13 people in the top 20 are related to music, 60 per cent are women and 65 per cent were born in the United States."

On a national level in Spain, four of the five most influential people on social media are footballers: Andres Iniesta, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique and Iker Casillas.
