Sevilla frustrate Juventus and secure goalless draw in Turin

Sevilla held Juventus to a goalless draw in Turin on Wednesday as Jorge Sampaoli's side got their Champions League campaign off to a decent start.

Record signing Gonzalo Higuain hit the crossbar for the Italian champions and Sergio Rico was called into action late on as the La Liga side held out for a point.

Sampaoli had chosen a line up without a natural striker, leaving Luciano Vietto on the bench. Before the match he'd been adamant that he'd stick to his attacking principles, but this was a more cautious display than expected.

Leonardo Bonucci and Paulo Dybala missed first half chances for the hosts.

Joaquin Correa, a second half substitute, perhaps had Sevilla's best chance. He span Giorgio Chiellini but his shot flew wide.

Higuain then got on the end of an Alves pass and was certain he'd opened the scoring, only to see the woodwork shake.

Juve then could have won it in stoppage time when Alex Sandro's header from a Dani Alves cross was saved by Rico, who then made a more routine save from an Alves volley.

In the group's other game Lyon had no problems dealing with Dinamo Zagreb. Corentin Tolisso, Jordan Ferri and Gnaly Maxwell Cornet all registered in a 3-0 win.
