Osasuna sack Joaquin Caparros and appoint Petar Vasiljevic

Caparros had not picked up a single point in La Liga since taking over at the beginning of November

Osasuna have sacked manager Joaquin Caparros after just eight games in charge.

Sporting director Petar Vasiljevic will take charge of the club until the end of the season.

Caparros took over from Enrique Martin in November, but has been unable to turn the Pamplona club’s fortunes around.

Seven of his games have ended in losses, with the exception being a 2-0 win over Granada in the Copa del Rey at the end of December.

However, this week’s 3-0 defeat in the first leg of their last 16 tie against Eibar proved the final straw.

The 61-year-old, who’s previously coached Granada, Levante, Mallorca and Athletic Club, among others, leaves Osasuna rock bottom of La Liga.

Los Rojillos have just seven points and are five from safety having won just one of their 16 league games to date.
